Serve the World
St. Martin’s outreach mission seeks to serve all those in need. You are invited to join us in giving your time and talent to fulfill our greater mission “to serve”. Get involved in one or more of our outreach ministries today and help us assist those in our community who need our support.
Our Outreach & Mission offerings include:
Backpack Buddies
Gathers, packs, and delivers weekend food to Anne Arundel County students in need each Friday. This ministry allows these students to have healthy foods at home and be ready and able to learn. St. Martin’s parishioners, along with our St. Martin’s Episcopal School (SMES) Kindergarten through 2nd Grade classes, make, donate, buy, sort, and pack food each week. All ages can participate. Contact: Patti Zielinski.
Holiday Sharing
Every year St. Martin’s brightens the holidays for our neighbors who are having a financially difficult time. As a parish we are able to provide a Thanksgiving feast, Christmas dinner and Christmas gifts for families and seniors in need. We partner with SPAN to obtain a list of people who need our support and often help more than 50 each year. Contact the parish office to get involved.
Light House Shelter
St. Martin’s sponsors a pizza and Bingo night at Lighthouse Homeless Prevention Center on the first Friday of every month. This is a great opportunity to be with our neighbors by sharing a good meal, and playing a few rounds of Bingo with them. Children must be at least 11 to volunteer. To volunteer please sign up here. Contact: Eileen Hartzell.
LOVE Is LOVE
No matter who you love or how you love, let us celebrate the love that makes us one in Jesus Christ! This ministry is brought to you by LGBTQIA+ parishioners and allies. Contact: Lori Skalitzky.
Mental Health
St. Martin’s is a supporter of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Health) Family Support Group. It is a peer-led support group for any adult with a loved one who has experienced symptoms of a mental health condition. The group meets the 4th Wednesday of each month in Heck Hall. Contact: Donna Maguire.
Scouts
St. Martin’s has sponsored Boy Scout Troop 855 for 50 years. Parishioners are always welcome. Scout meetings held on campus. Check out our list of this year’s Cub Scout activities. To join and for more information please email Boy Scouts or Cub Scouts.
SPAN (Serving People Across Neighborhoods)
Provides help to people in a critical or emergency situation such as utility turn-offs, court-ordered evictions, prescription / medical needs, and food. Anyone can participate through monetary donations, food donations, holding and supporting fundraisers, and volunteering at SPAN directly. Visit SPAN’s website for more information.
Winter Shelter
We shelter 15-30 homeless men as part of Winter Relief. We provide hospitality, meals, laundry, and safety for one winter week. We are offering shelter to men who are often marginalized. We join together with over 70 congregations to each take a week as we work together to alleviate some of the suffering these men face. This is a multi-faceted ministry that involves people of all ages including children and youth. Contact: Kathy Berge.
